Education is perhaps the most important indicator for future success, and often the single greatest factor to escape the lasting effects of generational poverty.¹

Research shows that what children experience during their early years of life can have a lasting impact on their future academic career and the rest of their lives.²

For years, VOICES for Alabama’s Children has reported on research on early brain development, the lasting effects of toxic stress and potential policy solutions to ensure all children get off to a good start.

To help ensure this, VOICES for Alabama’s Children has worked to expand high-quality pre-k, educate parents and others on the importance of school attendance, reading on grade level by the end of third grade and the dangerous effects toxic stress can have on a child’s academic and future success.
