The 2024 Alabama Kids Count Data Book is here!
VOICES for Alabama’s Children releases the Alabama Kids Count Data Book annually. It is the most trusted and comprehensive source of research on child well-being for Alabama and the state’s 67 counties. The Data Book has been a vital tool for more than 30 years, providing both a benchmark and a roadmap for assessing how children are faring. It is used to raise awareness of children’s issues, highlight areas of need, prioritize child well-being, and inform decision-making at the state and local levels.
This year’s Data Book underscores the vital role of economic security in children’s lives. Families have diverse financial situations, and while economic security varies for each, access to affordable resources is essential for all. Disparities in income, race, and community can lead to poverty and restrict opportunities for children. The 2024 Data Book provides context on key factors contributing to the state’s persistently high child poverty rate, helping readers understand how different indicators impact this issue.
