Stephen Woerner joined VOICES for Alabama’s Children as Executive Director in September, 2018.

Stephen came to VOICES from Troy University, where he served as an outreach trainer and consultant with state agencies, regional hospitals and a variety of for-profit and nonprofit organizations since 2016.

Stephen’s career has taken him along a rich youth-oriented pathway from summer camp leadership into nonprofit management. Prior to his position at Troy University, Stephen was the Executive Director of Bridge Builders Alabama for five years.

He also exercised his leadership skills outside of Alabama, serving in director-level roles at camps in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Massachusetts. He has spent many years advocating on behalf of the most vulnerable populations, focusing on education, medical special needs, youth development, quality of life issues, diversity training, and leadership development.

He has held various leadership positions on multiple boards in Montgomery including Tie and Doll, Montgomery Dragon Boat Festival, and Emerge Montgomery.

Stephen is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Recreation Management.

Stephen and his wife Laura reside in Montgomery with their son Christopher and daughter Elizabeth. In his free time, Stephen enjoys fly fishing, hunting, hiking, snow skiing, and reading voraciously.
